Whos been doing what this week then?

Ive had a nice little number, something to get my teeth into.

4 frames like this, then welded up into two big frames.
Would have been much easier had all the material come in cut to the right size, instead of 5mm variation on all the short bits :mad:

They will be 2 deck vehicle parking spaces apparently. (We just made the frame)

Mostly 150x100x8, and a few bits of 150x150x8 aswell. Whole thing weighs about 2.25 tons

Oh, and as for what i`ll be doing this week, wallowing in my own self pity, been to the hospial today and just found out that i`m going to be layed up in bed from march until september at least. Roll on 2010, i hope it`ll be a better year, last year stunk as well

I wouldn't rule it out. I've been muddling around with internet stuff on my top secret project that involves running a windows program from a web front end. The photos wouldn't be quite so interesting as yours.

Manways. To be welded onto a 48" water main whilst live (by others), have a large flange welded on the top (it's upside down on the bench) with a blank on the top. Flange and blanks 80mm thick. 18x M36 bolts hold the blank onto the flange.
Allow access into water mains for cleaning/inspection. Pipe is 25' underground
The 'pipe' you see on the bench is trimmed to match the profile of the saddle then tacked. Stiffeners all the way round, then fully welded. 5mm rods, Bohler 7018 lo-hi's.
All seems overkill. Although the pipe is massive, its only at 3 bar.

All been automotive stuff this week- a few tanks, intercooler piping and some custom gauge pods. Didn't take any pics of this weeks stuff but to balance out the BIG stuff that's been posted...

i was going cross eyed doing a bag full of these a few weeks ago

A lad who I work with does it. He welds tappings onto live gas mains. Low pen rods and lots of concentration. The flow of gas cools the inside bore of the pipe.
Basically welds a short stub onto the side of a pipe with a flange on the end. The pipe botherers come along and bolt a valve onto the flange, pressure test it, then bolt on a drill unit which is sealed. The drill bit passes through the valve and the short stub and drills into the wall of the pipe. The cut pice of pipe is held captive on the drill bit. The drill is then wound out back into its body, the valve shut and the drill taken off. They are then free to pipe off the valve - usually in plastic. Called under-pressure mains drilling.

i work at fusion provida paul. lol
we make the 'saddles' as we call them. we make them from 40mm all the way up to 500mm pipe. we buy in the moldings and wire them up ourselves.
fair enough it is plastic but some of the things we make may suprise you. i have put a few pics on somewhere of a speedboat we made from plastic pipe and sheet. we mostly do landfill contracts but we are moving into the geo thermal abit more now.

No way near the levels of skill that is shown on these pages but this was my job for Friday

I quite often need to transport stationary enines with my trailer so a loading ramp was made up using scaffold pole and some damaged tread plates from a skip
