Re change in rules, this came in about 6 or 7 years ago, when my mum in lancashire fell ill & passed away. When i finally got probate & sold the house 18 months later the General Binding rules on septic tanks etc had come into force.
Now Mums place was out in the sticks right next to Leighton...
An airboat would be the worst craft there you can imagine, the medway is a deep river averaging about 15ft rise & fall with fairly strong tides, get wind against tide & an airboat would be in trouble. Some guys use hovercraft there for mudlarking & they are ok when the tides out for going over...
That is why the oysters are so fat.
As for petrol engines in boats, these days most yotties would never dream of a petrol engine in a boat as percieved to be too inflammable! Not to mention expensive to feed. You wont find many old volvo petrols in boats these days as spares are either...
They dont have to steal it, Wonder why large numbers of Chinese students go to university in the Uk, Why do they value engineering & train young people in such things.
Ask yourself why our society does not value practical subjects in schools & scorns engineers in favour of bean counters & bankers.
I give it a couple of weeks before the Optimum kit is broken & they will wish they kept the Herbert, No comparison.
Last school i worked in we had three Optimum pillar drills the rise & fall mech on all broke within weeks. The maintenance contractor gave us some spares & the gears appeared to be...
Cheaper than it falling over & arriving in pieces. I had a Herbert pillar drill/tapping machine, it arrived on a scrap lorry laid on its back, cost me the grand sum of £15. Well top heavy. It was the only machine in my workshop that was actually bolted to the floor. Wish i still had it.
Fortunately my family does have an interest & will know where to shift my stuff when im gone. But when i see yards like that i do wonder, most blokes will simply have messed about & never finished anything. I know two blokes who collect boats & boat gear. Both are up to 20 each at least, one has...
I have a Nilfisk, its been excellent, cleaning boat bottoms & driveways, came with a whirly gig thingy i have never used & a drain snake that is very good at clearing drains. For the price you cant beat it.
Today i acquired John's Anvil, he was my father in law & passed away about 4 years ago. We have been meaning to move the thing from their back garden to ours for some years but its a big one & goes about 4 1/2cwt. This weekend our son hired a van to move his girlfriends stuff as she has sold her...
When i was a Technician at college & later at a school the same happened all the files & hacksaws were blunt. It seems that previous techies or teachers regarded the new ones in the stores as their own personal property. I just scrapped the lot & put new ones out. The kids appreciated it...
I dont bother. Ten years ago i cleared a school D&T workshop, in one of the cupboards were boxes & boxes of brand new files. I sold a few but have kept enough in all flavours to see me out!
I ran a Morris 1000 pickup for 18 years as a works truck for my boatbuilding & repair buisness. Best advert you could have & carried everything i could ever need. Its in the workshop being restored for the second time. Been round the clock at least twice possibly more.
Modern trucks are nowt...
Our last one was an LG, it was excellent & lasted 15 years. It was replaced with a Hotpoint, mainly because our washing machine man had one & it was very cheap. It was a mistake, for some reason doesnt get jumpers clean & i would not buy another.
My wife had it just after xmas, I got away with it until mid february & then got something, real bad chesty cough & headaches that lasted for weeks.
I still feel a bit breathless from it but its getting better. I dont usually get colds or flu but this was not nice.
Glad i dont work in the school...
Our lawn is a disaster, very uneven & one corner all ripped up where the hound corners tight when he gets the mads & tears round the garden. I have mowed it twice now & planed the top off several anthills. Its full of clover, dandelions & plantain which the tortoise likes to eat.
Garlic i...
Imagine that satellite being docked out of your wages, take you a few thousand years to pay that back! But can you imagine the crash & the horror lol.
As for the bandsaw, A Wadkin is a tall heavy beast that could kill someone. I have told the story before on here how i towed my old Startrite...
