I could of, and I tried. I think they were made from an alloy of titanium and kryptonite.
@Hitch. I got some cheap and nasty foam handlebar grips out of the bargain bucket at my local motorcycle dealer. The black donuts were cut off the ends of the grips.
Out of sheer boredom and prompted by the typically British Bank Holiday weather, I decided to tidy-up my old Record bench vice.
I was given it by a family friend some years ago. It had led an easy life but living in a damp shed had let the rust bugs get hold. I gave it a quick wire brushing and...
Get a gallon of vinegar from Asda (other retailers are available) and soak rusty toolage in said vinegar for a couple of days. It helps to wire brush the worst of it off, and also give them a swill in paraffin to degrease them first.
Right then... you know vehicle VIN plates are a piece of thin ally with all the numbers and stuff on them?
Does anyone know what the process is called for making them?
Are they screen printed or something?
Just to be clear - I'm not being shady  I just want a copy of a model...
Cheers pedrobedro. I did consider Hammerite smooth blue, it's not far-off, but I lost a lot of love for Hammerite after they removed the nasty stuff from it
Thanks W4yne, but I wouldn't be using auto paints. Wouldn't last 5 minutes on a vice!
I was going to use Rustoleum combicolor or an equivalent industrial paint. These all use RAL or BS codes, something like RAL5010 or RAL 5002, can't decide which is the closer match.
I'm thinking of cleaning up and re-painting my old Record vice so does anyone know what the nearest equivalent is to the blue paint used on record vices and tools?
Cheers.
I should imagine so, but I don't give it the abuse it deserves .
It's definitely a monster though. The 'anvil' block is brilliant.
How many vices have you seen that have had the slide mullered because it's been used as an anvil, or for striking-up on?
So... I guess no-one's ever...
Record Leader 14PB All Steel Vice.
I was given this vice years ago by a family friend whose Father passed away. I must've had it for nearly 15 years, God knows how long he had it for. It was in good condition but I repainted it about 10 years ago so it's not the original Record blue.
It's...
Really? You some sort of masochist??
Use the lime / talc after every polishing step, i.e. when changing compounds, to stop any cross-contamination on your mops.
We have a W. Canning 3hp pedestal polisher at work which mainly gets used on stainless. Some of the lads have had...
