BOX Autolynx manuals
I've been in touch with MIH Welding Supplies, who now owns all the old BOC welding machines' manuals and data:

Hi,
What I do to rust proof those areas of material which will become inaccessible after welding (plug welds, lap joints etc) is to spray on weldable primer over those surfaces, then weld, then spray primer over the completed weld.
This is not totally rust proof because the weld pool itself...
Continued, here's the comparison of the shielding gases

Oh and thanks to the admin who now makes it possible to upload more than five pictures - yipee.
Hi folks,
I've not posted something here for a long time. Here's another one of my projects, this time for a friend Oz. The Mini has a few patched repairs like I'd have done, but the welds are messier than I'd have done. I hence chopped out one offending area to remake it. See what you think...
Folks,
Questions: if the motor wire feed works when I press the torch trigger, but there's no power to the welding tip nor to the gas valve, then does this mean that I'm getting DC power correctly transformer? I've checked the terminal block that serves the motor - it reads some 10V dc (I...
Autolynx 130 innards
Here she is, I think it's the 130A model as it's rated at 130A continuous and 160A for spot welding.
There're no side covers, and I probed around the terminal blocks to chase mains 230V ac. I've a copy of the manual but with a few pictures missing. I'll see how I fare...
Hi folks,
I've bought an Autolynx 2 MIG welder off eBay, for a song. Gosh it's a soidly-equipped machine (92kg). The motor drive works beautifully as per trigger on torch. But there's no power to the gas valve, nor to the torch. Hence no welding.
I've a barely-legible copy of the manual. It...
Fire extinguisher bottle
I've taken some measurements and now have a better estimate of bottle volume:
circumference 50cm (dia = 15.9cm)
height (of plain cylinder) 50cm
volume = 9900cc, 9.9lt. Let's call it 10lt.
As the bottle is designed to store liquid CO2, and is refilled to no...
Yes I've got in touch with Mark Maynard. He confirms these prices, and also notes that he would only refill bottles which are sound.
To refill a CO2 pub gas bottle, we can note that it's designed to store liquid CO2, which liquifies at 67bar. I can't believe they would make the bottle take...
Good point rtbcomp, I don't believe there's much more to be gained once it's liquified. However, there's still this puzzle. The standard pub CO2 gas bottle contains 6.3kg of CO2, which at standard atmospheric conditions amount to 3200lt of gas. To cram this into that size of bottle (about 10lt?)...
£ per litre of gas
I rang Birmingham Welding Supplies (0121 236 3888) and they fill these bottles to between 900-1000psi (62-69bar).
My pub-gas regulator says it's at 80bar, but let's assume 65bar average.
It's an aluminium bottle, measuring about 8in dia by 24in high. Roughly it would...
I chanced upon Jawel-sales (eBay id), who has a chain of suppliers in the Midlands on automotive goods. They also do MIG shielding gas, using old fire extinguisher bottles (as far as I can make out from the letter stamps):
Pure Argon:
£58 + vat outright purchase of bottle
£28 + vat...
Two bottle shuffle
That's a shame about the two-bottle shuffle. I had this in mind... it works well with the pub gas bottles, one of which I pay rent on.
Refil?
I didn't know I could take these bottles to a shop, or supplier, for them to reful them? I thought it usually works on an exchange basis - I take them an empty bottle, pay for a full identical bottle, and then pay rent for this bottle?
What I'd like to know then is, which supplier...
Hi folks,
I've bought another MIG welder and that comes with two empty shielding gas bottles. Can you help me identify who supplies these bottles please?
Thanks

Using a gennie out at a scrapyard
Not really. I work at an open yard and there's a domestic 240V supply some 200yd away, which is only 13A rated, and its protection trips out frequently. Have to resort to a portable gennie, I'm afraid.
Advice on getting started on TIG
Looks like I'll need to get industrial argon gas then - I think I'll go for the BOC "Y" sized cylinder, based on what Malcolm and the others have been debating previously.
My generator is rated at some 6kW output but has over-current protection. It has...
