Gents,
Thanks for taking the time to reply. After your responses I had a further look at the drill press.
At full travel I cant feel any play in the spindle / quill. Everything seems nice and tight.
Narrowing it down a bit further I attempted to check the taper - used marker pen on the...
Hi Gents,
Over the past few months my Fobco Star pillar drill does drill as true as I would like. I was thinking it may require new bearings but having had a good look at it I am now not so sure.
The drill was an ebay bargain and at some point it looks like the past owner / owners may have...
Gents,
Wonder if anyone can help with a bit of advice.
I was given a compressor a short while ago that doesn't want to start. Plan is to fix it up and give it to my dad to use. Having worked on it I suspect the issue is the capacitor (only thing left it can be).
The dead capacitor markings...
Actually thinking about it - if I drilled the two holes and used rivets, rather than welding / or screws that could also work. Reason I dont want to use self tappers is they would be visible within the exhaust, whether a rivet would be less obvious.
Hi Gents,
Thanks for the replies. Cheers for confirming I will be ok taking this route Paul. Seems the only quick easy approach to getting the trims on without much fuss.
Trying to help my old man out. He has gone out and bought some replacement exhaust tips for his car. As they dont make the OEM trims any more he has bought some universal trims.
Problem is the exhaust is 2.5inch and the trims are 3 inch.
To avoid farting around, I was planning on drilling...
Can anyone tell me the best way I can test an electric motor.
I was given this motor recently - which was off a compressor. I would like to test it to see if its still useful and can be kept for a future use.
I am assuming from the motor plate its single phase - should I just wire it up...
Hi Gents,
One of the in laws was having a bit of a clear out and gave me an old compressor pump.
Literally no idea what make it is, but it turns over freely, and seems to pump air - so maybe still usable?
I was just wondering if anyone had an idea on what make it could be - I cant seem to...
Hey guys, thanks for the responses.
Big spark, that's right, I will be putting another blade on the saw and it's held with cup washers. Looking at the motor shaft the blade spins clockwise.
Thanks
James
Apologies if this comes across as a bone headed question - but the only stupid question is the one that isn't asked!
Soo ...
I have an electric motor which has come off a bridge saw. The thread on the spindle was wrecked so I have cleaned up the spindle and now need to add a thread to it...
Thanks for all the replies gents! I am going to take the plunge. It looks very similar in build to considerably more expensive units so hopefully it will be robust enough. Seems the only difference between the 12 & the 20t unit is the bottle jack. Its only going to be doing general...
Need to replace some subframe bushes on my car and man maths tell me this is a perfect opportunity to buy a press and expand my collection of tools.
Looking at eBay it appears I can get a 12t press delivered to my door which seems like pretty good value - but before I take the plunge can anyone...
Just thought I would update this - gave up on trying to get an impact wrench to run off my compressor and ended up buying a cordless impact wrench instead. Just made so much more sense as its infinitely portable.
Ended up with the new Dewalt impact wrench they have released...
Hi guys,
Before I spend some money I just wanted to check that I am not going to make an expensive mistake. So I need your collective wisdom and advice!
I am after a new Impact Driver - and have decided on the Chicago Pneumatic CP7748...
Hey Gents,
Thanks for all the help and advice. Can anyone recommend where I can go to track down a quick release coupling that I can fit onto the end of the tank? I have previously used machine mart and their fixings have been rubbish for leaking air!
Cheers
I knew there wouldn't be a straight forward answer to this! :)
I have looked at the battery impact wrenches as they are more usable (no annoying hose to drag around) but it looks like I would need to spend a packet to get a decent one. There is the Clarke mains powered one but again I don't...
Hi Gents,
Thanks for the replies!
I forgot Ingersol Rand - this one seems reasonably priced but I don't know how good it will be.

Just don't want to spend the money only to be disappointed like I was with...
I currently have a Clarke Impact Wrench and it is laughably gutless - so useless in fact tat I just don't bother using it as I can do a vastly better job with basic hand tools.
So I have decided to buy a new impact wrench and something that has the guts to actually shock loose hub nuts, crank...
