Sorry, I don't have a plan, but I have a picture of the finished item, its actually a fork, the design and layout of the tines is patented so am quite keen to be able to continue to manufacture them in the same way but to make the tines stronger, pic below - i hope!
Thanks Henry, That is what I thought, any ideas of a suitable grade? Just spoken to my suppliers this morning and he suggested using EN8.
Anyone care to suggest any other grade?
Cheers Paul
Hi
Not sure if this is the best place for this, but I have made some ragwort forks which are made by forging 10mm round into a taper, the 4 tines are welded onto 25 square box in a patented design and then bent forward slightly, socket welded on top, painted and handle fitted. Sounds ok, but...
Don't know for sure but when it worked my cut 40 had a gap of approx 3mm, I would try closing it up a bit at a time and see if it works, if it doesn't then you are in the same boat as me.
Do you send it off to plasmapart along with £100 of hard earned for them to fix til next time, or cut your...
Blacksmithstris, you are right I should complain, but the railings are not going back there, they have had 2 jobs from me and screwed them both, not to mention me!!!
They are members of the galvanisers association, so looked on the site and would you believe there is no where on there to...
Hi Guys
I have just been talking to a few metal finishing firms in the local area regarding how to go about getting a bodged galvanizing job re done, from what i have been told there is no other way than to blast off the bodged galv and have it re done, especially as the client 'wants' the...
hi all
Thanks for the replies. So mixing steel and stainless makes the joint brittle, ok.
Why dont i use steel parts, I would if i could find a supplier of the individual components, so if you know of any...... 52mm o/d
Or weld it in stainless wire for the stainless sections, the only...
Hi Guys
Its been a while since Ive had time to be on here, but needs must and I have a question I hope you can help me with.
To start at the begining a couple of years ago the flexi sections on my isuzu pickup exhaust leaked and i was quoted near £300 by the local dealer for the bit of pipe...
Hi guys
All i use as a template for the plasma is 2mm ply, easy to form and so long as you move at a reasonable speed and keep the tip close to the work peice it only ever gets warm, for straight lines i clamp a bit of flat bar about 4mm from the required line and drag the tip along the edge...
I got xp on works computers and vista on laptop, there are all the old settings and familier bits you are used to in there, you just have to find all the bits to change to find them.
Actually i would say vista is the same as xp but with a whole heap of window dressing!!!!!
Same thing just...
you need stainless wire and argon to weld stainless, and think you can join to mild with the stainless wire, but cant weld stainless with steel wire and co2, not 100% sure but someone will let you know for sure.
failing that, try it and see!
Regards Paul..
hi al
As already said, the edges are harder after plasma cutting, if you need proof just try running a file over it!!!!
As to using up grinding discs quicker I cant say ive noticed any difference but small intricate bits that you need a file or a little dremmel type stone thing definately...
Hi Bob
From a 2kg co2 I can use about 4 or 5 .7kg reels of .6mm mig wire, welding indoors at a flow rate of about 8 to 11 l/min (i think) , my gauge has a green bit for tig then goes blue for mig, i run it on the border between blue and green which i think is 10. It gives a lovely smooth...
I may be corrected here, but I had always thought that using thicker wire would reduce penetration for a given amperage but by the same score is obviously able to handle higher power settings without burnback (when the wire melts right back to the tip).
I would suggest turn power up, back off...
This may be way off the mark, but when welding from a genny the rating of the genny needs to be twice or 2 1/2 times the load of the welder, or something like that. so if the welder draws say 3kva you need a 6 or 7.5kva genny to cope, otherwise you will get poor results and an overloaded genny...
Hi Steve
have had a cut 40 for about a year now, mine has hf start so pressing button with tip close to surface starts it, if yours doesnt have hf then you need to make contact to start with, anti spatter spray is a good investment, just to spray on the nozzle, stops bits of metal sticking...
Hi Scott
Don't know if we have different c02 extinguishers over here but I use extinguisher bottles as a source of co2 for mig. just remove the pipe / horn and the reg screws straight on, have to be a bit ingenious with a clamp to hold the levers together when in use, but it works brilliantly...
Simon (drains) is spot on really, under 25% profit on a job is no good to you at all.
Plus paying for all extras they want up front is not a good place to be either, If i have to have galvanising done or a special made like a cast iron plaque to go in a design I will get money up front first...
