Hi Ian
Have you had a look on the MSC website we brought 1 that size as replacement on our elliot surface grinder, although it's not an eclipse it handles what our toolmakers throw at it just the same as the eclipse ones on our 540's...
Hi 500e
Our local tool / hardware supplier can get us 1000mm long GFS / O1 when we need it, they do have to get it in for us but only normally takes a couple of days.
It usually comes from Sheffield Gauge plate, the link (if it works) should give you imperial & metric sizes with a rough idea of...
Hi Noods,
Not sure what sort of morse taper you have on you drill, is there a slot on the side of the spindle when you bring the quill down.
You will be able to remove the chuck using a drill drift like below
You will be able to determine the size of morse taper with the power of google ;)...
Hi Noods
Chances are you'll have a jacobs chuck on the drill, our jacobs chucks which open to 13mm use a K3 chuck key.
If the chuck is on a morse taper it may to get a new chuck, we have brought a few keyless chucks for our bridgeport millers from RGD Tools, they have been no name chucks but...
Hi ukracer
Normally If I need to purchase aluminum (which isn't too often lately), I go to P&P Non ferrous in Brierley Hill, but you would need to open an account with them as they won't deal with cash or people walking in off the street.
They will cut to length if you require but not sure if...
Hi Alec
When i was at college many years ago  we had to make a slab mill cutter using helical milling on the horizontal miller the keyed shaft on the dividing head was coupled to the table lead screw on the miller so when the table moved the dividing head rotated.
The coupling was done...

I don't think cnc's are making this sort of equipment redundant, I used my sine bar only last week to set up a tip table / swivel table on my Hurco 4020 cnc miller.
The job had to be set at 42 degrees so i could 3D machine a specific area on a job even used my icky ball so i could set the job...

Hi Gents
You'll still get rads in the corner with wire eroding although very small, we use 0.25mm dia wire on our sodick, this cuts 0.3mm and will always leave a 0.15mm rad in the corners.

Phil
Hi John
Silver steel is also a tool steel O1 grade, the same as GFS (Ground Flat Stock)
Silver steel will also harden and go brittle where you weld it, we weld it occasionally with TIG and always use stainless rods (312 grade) holds up well.
Can you drill through existing tooling the...

Hi Paul,
Personally i would go 3 operations and use the centre hole to pilot from to keep the component consistent.
if these are only for one job so low volume (100 or so) I would be tempted to make the form punches and dies in a laminated style. i.e. if the component is 25 wide i would make...
We did a batch of rock sliders using this method 2 holes per slider, worked well we used a pillar drill and drilled straight through the section with a pilot drill first then used the cutter from both sides
