Today I acquired a No5 jack plane from @My Old Landy
It's a Draper Expert copy of a Stanley.
I've been looking for a jack plane and was debating if I should get an old plane or buy new, but as this came up and it was only a £10 posted I thought I'd give it a go.
In fairness I wasn't expecting...
What grade are the originals? S275?
S355 is straight forward to weld and might be good enough.
Higher grades (460 and up) get trickier but can be welded.
As a general rule, the higher the grade the more prone the welds are to cracking.
Fantastic work.
I made one at a class, so know the amount of work that goes into making an acoustic, however I didn't have to make all the tooling or go into half the detail you did (I never knew solid linings were a thing) and your inlay work is amazing.
By coincidence, the one I made was an...
The cyclone is up and running again.
I had a spare tub from one of the Lidl ash collectors that were so rubbish I don't know why I bought two, but at least I had a spare.
To prevent this one imploding, I rolled a ring out of 25 x 5 flat bar and hammered into the center of the tub.
It's a...
Used a similar method today to clamp a strip of wood I was gluing to a set of reclaimed doors.
The edges had been hacked off when they were first installed, over 100 years ago.
I made good the damage with body filler before gluing on the strip because it's now visable.
Probably sacrilege to...
Today I broke my cyclone extractor.
I'm doing a bit of decorating and using my cyclone to sift out some of the sanding dust before it goes into the central vacuum system I installed probably 20 years ago.
Vacuum always worked fine but I decided to wash the filter for the first time ever when...
I do have decent scales and try to measure to 0.1g.
However, Jotan hardner is like gloopy golden syrup straight out of the fridge (does anyone keep syrup in the fridge?) so it's hard to get it perfect every time, especially with very small batches.
Having said that, I must get close enough, as...
Mix by weight and you can be very precise with small quantities.
I don't know how critical the ratio is because I've never had epoxy primer not cure.
It might be a bit like polyester filler, who ever bothers getting the 1 to 2% ratio correct?
You could brush it, most epoxy primers I've used, brush and sand very well.
Also, it will provide better protection than thin coats of "mostly" thinner.
I'm set up for 2 pack so I mostly just use that. I do like a chemical cure.
One thing worth watching with single pack paints is, will it cure over the sealer.
I've never had an issue with polyurethane but you can have issues with oil based paints not drying over some seam sealers.
As they say...
What model is it?
On ours there is a float switch in the sump under the machine.
The pump seal failed and when the sump filled enough it stopped the machine draining.
Not a sprinter, but this is how I attacked similar issues.

If you can seal the rust so that you keep the water and air out it should last indefinitely .
Pressure wash, blast, then epoxy, seamsealer...
I jacked a 4inch galvanised steel pipe under a bank at the back of my garage as the french drains stopped working and the area was filling with water when there was a lot of rain.
I didn't want to dig because there were a lot of trees planted on the bank.
It was a while ago and I'll look for...
I've had good results repairing plastic trim, usually they can be filled and painted to good effect.
If you are going for wood, I'd use Barseal for the first coat.
It is pure shellac and excellent for sealing wood to stop it moving with humidity.
Obviously all faces will need sealed and make...
This thread is worth a look, the post you are after is at the end.

What finish are you after?
Colour or keep an alloy look?
Cerakote do both and both will work on your application.
@onthames is the person to talk to, he has shown some great work with Cerakote on here...
Another wee job over the weekend.
Mates transit was up for the test and needed some welding to the Passengers side sill.
I welded the driver's side last year and he said if he got another year out of it he would scrap it, but same story this year.
Not to worry, far less work required this...
