I had a go at TIg brazing with CuSi3Mn1 rods. First up is a handle for a Kasto hacksaw. Brazed with 100 Amps DCEN (straight polarity).
At 100A the bead flowed very easily and the filler was added quickly after striking the arc. Long downlope to let it cool evenly.
Some time ago i tried...
Yeah, with (advanced) squarewave from an Inverter the HF is only needed for starting.
You can find some info about it in the Esab Aristotig DTD manuals, there are wiring diagrams etc in those.
Nice project. I wanted to build a (tig) welder for ages but in the end it would have taken me too...
I use stick welding quite a bit for the thicker plain steel stuff. works great. :welder:
The slag peels right off with the right rod/technique. Maybe i can find some pics of the work i did last summer.
The rods i am using were dumped on the side of the road by a construction firm
let me think... I mostly use it for tig, which it does very well. the stick welding function is great too, the pulse/AC/DC/etc functions also work with stick/MMA so that makes life easier as well.
The machine has worked perfect since then, never failed on me.
check how long it takes...
very very nice. :clapping:
wouldn't a small diesel engine be more economical? probably not worth it since those engines are very expensive. Some time ago i made plans to build such a vehicle with a lawn mower attachment, powered by a small Daihatsu 3 cylinder turbo diesel (30-40 hp).
nice! I drive a 240 myself. Still saving up for the last parts to add a turbo to the original engine and to upgrade the suspension. Lots of people did that and they managed to get quite a fast brick ;)
Try www.turbobricks.com. a lot of guys there doing custom stuff, tuning, etc. Also quite a...
watch out with brake cleaner or other chlorinated products. If you leave some of it on the workpiece it can be transformed into a phosgene gas under influence of the very intense UV radiation.
The agressive AC, is that a true squarewave? And the normal AC a squarewave with rounded edges? I...
Looks very good for first TIG work!
I clean alu with a stainless steel wire brush (only used for Alu) and then clean it with isopropyl alcohol if needed, although usually no need for that.
Hey,
I just bought a Speedglas 100V auto darkening helmet. Its a new range (just a few months old) from Speedglas, and comes at a quite attractive price. Mine was 150 euro ex VAT from my welding supplier. It can be found a bit cheaper on Ebay etc, but my supplier threw in a pack of extra...
i bought NiCr rods from Esab, "19.85 Ok Tigrod". They cost 120 euro/kg. Luckily my supplier splits up packages so i got 3 rods for 10 euro ;)
Maybe usable, I haven't used them yet. Planning to weld a Volvo (turbo) exhaust manifold with it, some of them are prone to cracking (easily prevented by...
nice machine. a few improvements and it is ready for use
I used to experiment with (big) old A/C compressors. never finished one, just used them without tank/pressure switch for small stuff. Now i have a 4 hp compressor for the air tools.
can't you degrease the tank and pour in some...
To follow up on this:
Just got this coolant. Abicor Binzel, BTC-15. Non conducting etc, antifreeze up to -10C (Probably enough, would have been nice if it had been up to -15, you never know). I'll flush the system and change the fluid next week. I hope the water pump problems are solved...
Myfords are nice, a friend of mine has 2 of them. great machines! They are pretty expensive over here too.
I got an old lathe last year, here are some pics.
(bad pic)
It is a bit big for hobby use. Still busy with cleaning it up, the bed was rusty and everything was covered/plugged...
one thing that makes it possible to make cheaper MMA buzzboxes is to use aluminium instead of copper on the secondary side of the transformer. The aluminium conducts the heat better for a given amount of material so they can use thinner wires/strands, but the efficiency goes down a bit. Once the...
looks better than my stick welding! i always have that the arc wanders to one of both sides...
With the small start/stop issues fixed the weld is very good imho!
