I have bought quite a lot of aldi stuff over the years. Mainly tools I use just a couple times a year.
The quality of their hand tools is not very constant. Some are crap, some are quite good value for the money. As for their power tools, in NL they have been selling Ferm, a Dutch importer...
There's no need to apologize, mate.
There are so many things that you have to figure out when getting started, that it is all too easy to get lost. Pretty much all of us had to go through that phase. Especially the self learners.
I like the agricultural aproach, but... the problem is that it started rusting from the inside. You can poke your finger through, err well screw driver through it already. Hence my epoxy idea.
Ah, sills. Thanks for that word
I have looked in the arches already, but could not...
Someone I often help with the maintenance on his car has a rust problem. Mainly on the lower front part of the wheel arches, where it extends into the beam (not sure what u call that part).
Now the car is in very good condition. Rare model (at least in NL), well maintained, low mileage, many...
Errrr, about the stainless steel wire brushes,
Wouldn't a ss wire brush leave small traces of metal behind in the aluminium and thereby causing light contamination?
Some boat afficionados warned me not to use a ss wire brush for removing paint from an aluminum mast because of the extra...
This should help you out

Just curious... does stainless steel need the same thorough preparation as mild steel? Or can you get away with quickly...
Cheers Runnach!
That makes a lot of sense. Sounds like we are getting into the higher realm of welding here
(boat not going as fast as I wish, but we'll get there...)

Thanks for the description, Runnach.
I am still uncertain on how to judge whether penetration and fusion are adequate while welding 1.6mm mild steel (single run, multi pass welds on 1.6 are a bit out of my league I'm afraid :ashamed:).
Since there is a blob of filler metal on top of the...
Ooooh, Oil rigs, nice.
Used to do maintenance work for off shore equipment while in college. Sort of got me addicted to the smell of oil and steel. Great fun.
How is the fillet and lap tigging going, Zardoz?
Got any advice for someone hoping to achieve perfection?
I know that torch angle, arc length (see Hotrodder thread), watching the notch (centre of v shaped weld pool) and travel speed are hugely important. And, allegedly, if you...
Thanks for the pics, Zardoz. It is interesting to see the progress that you have made.
Would love to see a similar post about fillet and lap joints. My fillet tig-welds can use some improvement. On thin stuff the weld pool doesn't seem to spread nicely and I suspect it may cause lack of...
It is a wet lead acid battery indeed, but in the Netherlands they recommend charging between 13,8V and 14,1V. I heard that you run the risk of boiling the battery when charging at 14,4V or more. I measured 15,5 at the battery with the engine running idle, which is over the safety limit they...
