I bought a small Clarke Pro90 (gas & gasless) and it was great for about 20 years doing MOT patches & DIY.
No need for very low power when welding 70s cars (I got the Clarke as it could go very low for thing sheet but almost everything I do uses the top 2 settings, bottom 2 are never needed)...
Update: it didn't get returned and has worked fine a couple of times since.
The good news it held charge for several months while my classic was parked up in storage.
I suspect it did nothing as I was too impatient. It needs to be connected and and left for about a minute to stabilise before...
Something I was taught as a kid and have used many times since (just last month to pop the magneto of an old farm machine):
Undo the nut on the end of the shaft so it is lose but protects the threads on the shaft
Use a couple of levers (tyre levers if you have clearance, or old screwdrivers) to...
I was using a Huawei E5776 pebble for a couple of years at various sites and rate it highly and the high capacity battery is great. Not sure if it has a connection for an external ariel.
The bottom bracket tensioning the spring on the large up & over door snapped off recently.
An old hinge made a decent bracing strap, it’s even hinged so can be swung out of the way if needed - not a bodge at all. Right?
Smile, you know you want to*
* I wasn't smiling when I hit a pothole on a Devon backroad, I'm still surprised the airbags didn't go off with the impact
Funny & shocking clip ! https://ifunny.co/video/holy-pothole-tik-overtime-6pD1iQmyA?s=cl
Websites with plenty of...
I've had a couple of sets from Rally Design (the last set was for a retro Hillman) - their website isn't very friendly but the prices and range of stock make up for it.
My local engineering place uses a 3 legged hone fitted in a drill, the whole lot hangs from a spring / counterweight in the ceiling so it's self-centering and easy to handle.
I don't remember needing to adjust it for glazebusting so guess it's a flexi type not fixed.
You could well be right but the article is dated Oct' 2022
I guess it's either still being worked on but they have stopped the publicity or they've moved onto something else, neither option is reassuring.
:scared:
I've had a blocked nose & more for several weeks.
A good friend noticed me clearing my throat a lot recently and described it as "odd".
It feels like phlegm just below my throat that is cleared when I cough. Usually with a cold it's a lot deeper and only clears with lots of deep coughing - this...
I've fitted those Day & Night / Hit & miss blinds in a couple of houses, they work well as you have 3 options :
Fully open, they disappear at the top of the window
50/50 so you get privacy & some shade, zebra stripes style.
Fully closed so you get total privacy.
Pick a dark colour or "blackout"...
I got a set of dash clocks from a Mk1 Cortina in the scrapyard when I was a teenager, it wasn't until a few years later that I got my first Mk1.
Also got a Mk1 escort grill to use on a non-escort fun project many years ago - never had an escost and looking at prices I wasn't expecting to ever...
It failed :flame:
After reading the manual I now know it has 2 safety features, an alarm if you connect the terminals the wrong way (great) also a warning that the car battery is scrap if the voltage falls too low
The car has been parked for a couple if months with the battery...
Good point above about safety interlocks @foy9999
Looking at the manual for the one I have it should refuse to start unless : *You're sitting in the seat *it's in neutral *you have your foot on the brake *the blade cutter is disengaged *you click your heels 3 times and say the magic words (or...
Quick tests I normally do on anything that is dead :
Check the voltage on the battery
Check all fuses (be prepared to hunt around - often some are hidden to make things more fun)
Remove the black box and check the wiring connection on the vehicle to make sure the black box has power and has a...
Is it a well kept machine or a working / farm tool?
Reason I ask is that I'm using a vintage petrol ride-on mower, rats have chewed most of the wiring harness so it gets jump started from a car battery then the battery gets disconnected. It's rough but works.
The regulator is faulty so...
Surely it would have paid to have hired a forklift for a couple of hours on day 1 just for the convenience of not having the van out of commission for nearly a month?
:scared:
Not nearly as entertaining for us of course
A lot of common UK car designs were sold overseas and continued for many years after they were discontinued here showing there is / was a market for a basic car at the right price.
I just found out the Ital was still being made in China as late as 1998...
