The last weld was done same amps and speed as the others only difference was with the gas lens fitted. Hopefully my technique has got a bit better too though.
Ok gas lens arrived today and made a huge difference. Welds no longer look burned and flowing alot nicer. Just run out of gas now though and can't get another bottle until Monday but im happy with where im at now. Thanks again everyone for your help.
I don't think im taking the filler rod out of the gas but i did'nt know that could cause a problem so i might have done. Will see next time i try. Torch angle is a tricky one as it's a curve so i try and follow it round until it becomes uncomfortable then i stop and rotate the pipe some more...
Yes mate it's a hardtail ,Fj1200 engine, harley v rod wheels. Building a 4.0 Tvr Chimaera engined trike now. That's what i want to make an exhaust for next. Made the frame and forks myself as well as narrowed the jag axle and want to do as much myself as i can.
Ok thanks gave that a go. This 35 amps and increased Down slope. Found i can get that final dab of filler rod in there. Still looks burned before i clean it up but looks ok after.
Totally agree. I want to do the best job i possibly can. Hence why im asking for advice on here. I take pride in my bikes and ride them hard so want them to look good and last too. Here's the last bike i built. I made the exhaust on this one but only tacked it. I got a guy at work to fully weld it.
I used to work for a company making Vacuum chambers. They were to big to practically fill with Argon so sometimes id be asked to go on the inside and follow the welder round with a nozzle attached to the argon bottle. Just had to keep it pointed at the red bit. Lol
Thanks again guy's. Like i say i will be purging when i come to do the job for real. Will have another play with settings tonight. Might play without filler rod to and pulse settings see what i get. Would like to polish the welds smooth after though so may need to build them up 1st.
Thanks for all the feedback. I went and had another go at 30 Amps and it looked alot better. Purging using a disposable bottle or T off of my main bottle sounds like a good idea and a cheaper option. This bit of tube is only a small offcut but will practice with purging before i have a go at...
Im setting up my new R Tech welder and had a practice with mild steel and stainless steel. I keep getting what looks like porosity in my welds and the stainless welds always look burned. This bit of stainless tube is about 1.5mm wall and i as on 60 amps, 1.6 tungsten, no5 cup and 7 lpm gas flow...
Just ordered an R Tech 160 amp machine today as heard good things about them and the 12 month interest free credit makes it more affordable. Will let you know how it goes.
I removed the board yesterday and took it into work as i have a colegue who knows a bit about electronics. He thinks the transistor has failed. Its not clear in the picture but is just infront of the coil. I can get a replacement for 99p on ebay so think it's worth a try. Will keep you updated
