hi,
My elderly SIP 170 finally died, so I need a new MIG. The problem is that I live in France, where these things are not too common and very, very expensive, so need to buy mail order However, not many UK places will ship something as large as a welder :(
Found this thing on local ebay...
The main suppliers are AirLiquide or Linde.
However, last time I asked around my local suppliers, the price of a normal bottle of either argon/co2 or pure co2 gave me The Fear. As far as I can remember, the years rental fee for an empty bottle was around €300, with €60 per fill/refill.

Gasles wire is the best bet as the weld doesnt need to look pretty, just hold well.
I have a topmig 170 turbo, and have a lot of rough construction work to do outdoors with it. Can I convert it to run gasless wire?
I so, what do i need to do?
New liner, tip and I have heard I may need to change the polarity?
Well, I havent done the mod I mentioned, but I have improved it 100001%
Here is what I did....
Firstly, it already had a steel liner, yet the feed was still crap.
I had bought the unit second-hand so knew nothing of its history, so I stripped it all right down.
Firstly I removed the...
Hi, have a sip topmig 170 turbo and its....well, its average.
Yes, the wire feed is shonky and I notice that it takes a lot of pressure on the adjusting screw to get a decent feed, with the result of the plastic mounting of the idle roller bending.
Now, I read on a car forum somewhere - cant...
