New to tig, some practise runs on 3mm steel using 1.6 rod and electrode. When I add in filler the weld pool goes really cold. Is this normal?
Also finding it hard to keep angle of torch correct. Lots of practise needed. Any feedback in welds and how they look?
I Have a thermal arc 181i and now looking to purchase a TIG torch to use with it. It's a lift start TIG. I believe you also have to connect the gas directly to the gas bottle rather than machine. Hat type of torch is required? Thanks in advance.
looking at purchasing a new mig welder with about £400/500 budget and after advice. Will be doing mostly car body and chassis work with some additional fabrication work with max 4mm metal. Have a sealey No gas/gas mightmig 150 that have set up with a full size hobbyweld gas bottle. Now would...
I have used weld thru on the inner arch but as its a reasonable size panel thought epoxy would be a good option but as you say I thought welding may cause issues with the epoxy. Can you epoxy panel and then just put weld thru on the edge that would be welded?
I'm replacing the rear arch on a mk1 mx5 and have purchased a panel from eBay. My question is should I paint the inside of the panel with epoxy before welding in? My concern is that when I weld in will the epoxy affect welding?
i am in the process of doing a sill and inner and outer wheel arch repair on a mk1 mx5. It started out looking not to bad but as always it always worse than you think. In the end needed the whole inner arch to be replaced and part of the sill. I have cut out any rusty metal I can see as might as...
Managed to get off work early and get to it
Happy with a blend on the passenger a pillar but not to happy with drivers side.
A couple of tiny flies decided to commit suicide also!! How long do I need to leave the paint to cure before I denib?
What are my options re the drivers side blend...
Yep only plan to use fade out thinner for the laquer, but thank you for checking. Cheers. Will finish masking up tomorrow then plan to paint on Thursday. Will post results over the weekend!!
Plan was to use a cutting compound and grey scotch on the blend area then when I mask I will create a tunnel on the a pillar and use the fade out thinners on that area. This seems to be in line with the advice from norsa but I'm all ears.....like I say I'm learning as I go and appreciate the...
Thanks for all the help, appreciate the advice. It saves making a lot of mistakes whilst learning. I will get round the garage tonight and sand with some 800. Will also not go to heavy on first colour coat.
Thought I would share some photos of how I'm getting on so far. Had rust in both sides...
just wanted to check, I have epoxy prime red then high build and just about to base coat. I have blocked higher build with 240, 320 and then 500 grit. Is this a high enough grit to remove sanding scratches? Plan is to basecoat with solid black then once tacked off move straight to 3 coats of max...
Langy would you say that a cheep primer gun is all you need? I have also been looking at the Fast Mover LVLP 1.8mm FMT3006 which is a good deal at only £26. I know you say 2.0mm so will continue to look at other guns with 2.0mm also.
So is it a complete no no painting in a garage with no heating at this time of year. Its initially going to be epoxy primer and high build but eventually BC and Clear. I appreciate that flash times would be longer that on the spec sheet and it will take a lot longer to completely go off but is...
Hi, looking for some advice on fluid tip size for epoxy and high build primer. Would 1.8 or 2.0mm be best? I am planning on purchasing a Devilbiss FLG5 with 1.4 tip that I can use for clear and basecoat but as only a novice and DIYer I cant afford 2 guns. So far I have used a 1.0mm £10 ebay gun...
