Yeah, it turns on, the light illuminates and it ticks away. I put a welding rod in the holder, clamp the return lead onto a bit of steel then scratch the rod, it arcs on the steel then the breaker on both the machine and on the wall trip.
I'm tempted to try rewiring it for 240v to see if that...
My mate who is some form of electrician wired it up by removing the 16a plug and fitting a 32a plug. I will need to strip it down and take some more photos.
Here are some photos.

As you can tell, I don't really have a clue with what I'm doing or what I'm looking for when it comes to the...
It powers up ok, it arcs for a split second then trips the breaker. I'll need to check what type of fuse is used upstream. I have a variety of 3 phase equipment which works fine with the power supply including an Esab mig machine.

It powers up but when trying to strike an arc it trips the breaker on the wall.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Do I need some...
Just discovered none of my local welding suppliers stock co2 regulators, well cheap regulators anyway. The cheapest I could find locally was £50 but now I'm thinking it would probably be best just buying some hobbyweld as I already have a regulator for argon co2.
Got my first welding job on...
Thanks for the replies, I saw those adaptors on ebay but also saw that for an extra £5 I could get a co2 regulator.
I do plan on getting hobbyweld but thought I'd try the cheap option to see how the welder performs before spending £75 on hobby weld.
The renault 18 is a good start, it won't...
Hi, my name is Scott and I'm from Dunfermline. I'm just about to finish an NC in Fabrication and Welding which I've quite enjoyed, hoping to gain employment as a welder soon.
I've recently purchased a Sealey Supermig 150/5 and hope to get started on a couple of automotive welding projects...
