The most basic course i believe are city and guilds part 1 and part 2.
As to is there much work out there the answer its very much the same as everything else to little work for to many people.
But having said that there is money to be earned, car repairs, gates and railings, general steel...
Much on a second hand machine depends on how it has been treated. If it has been looked after then there shouldn't be to much problem. Its when the likes of printed circuit boards go pop that you may have some trouble. contactors and switches in the machine shouldnt be to much of a problem as...
phil have you looked at the equivilent portamig, lowest setting on those is 15amp which is ideal for very thing sheet. spot and stitch i have never used had it on the old machine. when i upgrade it to a 300amp portamig, it didnt have them and i dont miss them either

I have had mine out nearly 40mm before, when i cant get into gap because of the cup getting in the way. need to turn the gas up though. I usually have the tip out no more than i need to
BOC bottles are filled to 230 bar at 15 degrees centigrade, now i have had bottles that have registered nearly 250 bar on a real warm day and bottles that register just about 200bar on a freezing cold day. Thermal expansion is another thing to take into account. Something that remains static and...
Thing is with plugging it in to the mains, it has to be synchronised. The cycle has to match the power grid. The national grid has large expensive systems that match the cycles up when they switch a power station in. At least if he does it my way he can power the computer if he is posting to the...
you are as far as i am aware supposed to have guards around them. universal ironworkers have guards over cutting blades etc. i dont think it would effect a flypress you would have to be rather dumb to put you fingers in there and turn the handle.
im guess you see the BBC tv show where they wired up 80 cyclist to turbo trainers, to run a house. as rtb mentioned there one was done as far as i could workout using inverters to turn 12/24 into 240v but the mains was disconnected from the house. very interesting as rtb said an educational as...
I assume we are talking city and guilds level 2 you a have passed, i would imagine that would be acceptable to most fabrication companies, it means you can stick two pieces of metal together and its unlikely to fall apart. A lathe is a fun thing to play with, im totally useless on one, normally...
I always found running a 2.2kw compressor from a 13 amp plug wasn't so clever. It has a tendancy to pop fuses on a regular basis. 2.2kw running power equates to around 7kw draw for a split second. More ideal if you can run it on a 16amp or 32amp dedicated plug.
George i dont mind thrashing a subject like this to death, because its just plain and simple high pressure gas is dangerous. If someone reads this thread and it educates them about safety of pressure vessels then it was worth the effort of me and others typing replies.
