If you quote the you get what you pay for comment then Lincoln hits the spot as my Lincoln mig was bought new in 1985 and still works perfectly and has seen 100s or poss 1000s of hrs of arc time,
How often do we see my welder is broke thread, generally with the cheaper brands.
Met a guy at a meeting in cambridge that had come down from sheffield in his Tesla,
Had to go via northampton to charge up on the way (more wastage)
And then drink coffee out of a plastic cup while waiting for it to charge!!!
He was quick to point out that it wasreally just a good car for the...
Like you i tried a few beads but there was so much flex it needed stiffening,
The box section brace sorted, i can run deep beads in 18g steel in one pass now,
Also did the T handle adjuster for tension and also added a spring for the rolls to self seperate so you dont have to lift the top roll...
Altough a lot of folk rave on about motorising a bead roller in reality it would be an occaisional tool for most,
Not knocking those that do but I've bead rolled for many years and its mostly the odd panel so manual cranking is ok for me,
The worthwhile mod i made for one man use is to fit an...
I have fairly large double/treble garage and fitted a plate walll fan, approx 350mm blades from memory,
if i plan to weld for any sizeable period of time i fire the fan up and leave it running for 5 mins or so after i'm finished,
the same goes for grinding,
Keeps the air real clean in there...
4130 chromemoly is used in the UK but the vast majority is for drag race cars,
i've used it a fair bit,
The general consensus, obviously depends on where you read it is that under around .120"wall or 1/8" in old money is that it wont need heat treating,
Most drag race stuff is under that wall...
I've used the stainless line that is sold by Speedway motors in the US and it works fine,
Even with the postage it may still work out cheaper than from the UK suppliers,
Search on US Ebay and look for the global shipping program as thats the cheapest postal option, about 10 days to arrive on...
I've built several drag cars to SFI spec,
Its basically a proven design based on testing, load tests on specific tube and wall sizes, tube layout and obviously some post accident reports,
As said a poorly designed cage with a lack of triangulation has a far higher chance of failure no matter how...
Heres a link to them;

It may be cheaper from the USA,
Try ebay.com with a seller that offers the global shipping program its by far the cheapest way to get stuff over,
I get most of the parts for my american car that way.
Think i paid about £400 for mine,
if you work at the same bench they're an expensive luxury but i build cars and its great with one less lead trip over and keep dragging around.
Hi Richard all is good hope alls well with you,
still come on here but havn't posted much recently,
Still building the cars but posting the build threads is a bit more hard wirk since photobucket decided to get greedy,
Hotchef you need to call Empire welding for the wireless pedal they'll cut...
Yes its perfectly normal for that noise, owned my Dynasty 200 several years now and it makes that fairly quiet electrical noise all of the time when and barely noticeable,
It also runs for about 20 seconds getting gradually quieter when you shut it down so nothihg to worry about,
Ps, blinding...
Had one for about 30 years, as said it doesn't really go slow enough fir big holes in steel,
Around 500rpm ish?
perfectly ok for twist bits up to about 1/2" and holesaws to about 2".
An option if you're prepared to do the work is convert it from constant running to thermostically controlled,
A thermo switch from a fan-ondemand machine placed in the correct location will ensure that it cools correctly when you work the machine hard to ensure its protected,
Had an r-tech...
As said its really a job for the pro's
Was i was in full time metal fab we used a company called Millers rings in Dagenham to roll box section and rsj's to our spec, it came it quite accurate if i remember but certain materials suffer light distortion from the process.
