Agree. But here, we have feflective patches on the centerline that give you a guide. Just paint with interesting 'bits' in.
The bloke that invented cats eyes, was quite interesting.... Had a TV in every room, in the days when they were not that common.. Eccentric to a degree.
Did an advertising shoot for Guinness. Found a Jeep CJ-6 and a LR which the director wanted sand blasting. So got that done.. He then said that the finish was not what he expected. I suggested he had thought bead blasting? He was not happy that I second guest him. But we moved on..
Running the...
After living in a sunny country, so had a light perma tan, I rarely use gloves, or worry much about other protection. No synthetics, as they burn too easily. Did have a a bit of burn when welding outside in the late 60s. Bunch of axles onto trailing links. Nice sunny day, so outside and not...
Just talking to a bloke in UK about a differential winch to haul up his steel centre plate on the boat. Basicly, the ss cable is wound round a 25mm tube that has a much bigger pulley on the end with a rope to haul. Gives about 8:1.
Never had a cracked screen, but had several of the old toughened ones shatter after stones/a brick/ roof tile hit them. The brick was 'interesting'.. pulled out to overtake a lorry in my Mini (proper old one) and the brick stuck between his twin rear wheels decided to escape...It went through...
Could have made yourself a twice scale Morgan 3-wheeler
Which, reminded me of a tale from the States, in the 70s. Bloke out in the sticks, farmer, happened to have a Packard Merlin in his barn (as you do...) and decided to build himself a plane. Not any old one, but a three times...
So, buying some tube for a terrace awning, I wandered around the shed. My supplier is a recycling plant, that munches huge quantities of cars and other scrap but also has a section with discounted new steel.
Noticed a box in one of the scrap bins, so had a closer look. It contained hundreds of...
Your standard sockets are 16 amps, so you can run a welder for most work, but maybe not to max amps... UK has 13 amp sockets and peeps run welders for a lot of average jobs on them.
I run my 281 off a 20 amp breaker and no prpbs so far. But I have not used it's top end power.
If that was a reply to me, it was quite good, a lot better than the one I bought when first trying Tig in 2000 That conked from dropping and a crack in the lense.
Forces friend of mine, was in armanents after the war ended (Flew bombers in it )and needed some alloy for a project. Was told to take a truck down to the docks where they were off loading. Spitfire wings were being tossed on the dockside, along with the rest of the bits. The leading edge alloy...
Thanks for the suggestions. I use it fairly frequently, but most of my work is with a basic mask as short runs and habit after 60 yrs of sparks..
Used it about a week ago?
Might try the prize open idea.
Thanks All.

Hi all
My Rival helmet has stopped working. No knocks or other reason that I can think of. Looked at the cartridge, to see if it has a battery, but no easy way to open it.
Any thoughts? Twiddling the knob has no effect.

Think you will find the 175 does do flux core. But I like the 200 unit. 4 roller wire and pulse for aluminium. Plus the extra ampage, as you need more amps for ally compared with steel for the same thickness. Quite a difference in price, but still reasonable.
You can weld stainless with MMA using the correct rods. 316 is marine. Most marine work is welded by TIG, but I find MIG is good, but you should use the correct gas mixture. A lot of what I do is domestic, like terrace railings, so my 8% CO2/Argon works OK.
One thing, my 150 amp Mig was up to...
I often weld galvanized steel tube, but I grind off the galv for about 4mm back from the welding joint edge. I do notice that the zinc next to the weld does inhibit rust a bit, like the anodes on a boat. Apart from possible weakness in the weld, the burning zinc is pretty toxic.
Again, I often...
Another vote for Stahlwerk, I have a plasma from them and it works well. Had a queiry and they were very quick to reply and help.
When I lived in Portugal, I found Telwin good too, I had some an inverter mig/tig off them, very good and a Cebora transformer plasma cutter. but that was a while...
