Where does it say it will break your machine. go back to the original question, can firing in air damage a plasma cutter NO! is the answer, ask Jim Colt, after all I have talked to Jim for the last 10 years
Firing in the air will not harm it all, its not really firing in air, inside the torch is positive and negative, HF kick starts the spark or jumps the gap and the compressed air blows the plasma flame out the torch, non HF uses some sort of spring system to start the arc, sometimes called...
I would go with hypertherm too, used to be 3 years warranty on the power supply. I had a board go 2 years in on a machine (lead free solder problem) from the USA and they warranted the repair here even though I should not really have had it hear. (I bought the 1650 from the states and shipped it...
I can remember some of the specs
Metric Mod 1 rack and 18 tooth pinion, gear the steppers at 3:1
small drive belts.
3 stepper motors nema 34
3 micro step drives 4- 8 amp
3 power supply's, one for each axis
linear slides can be bright stock 3x1/2 inch
flanged bearings to make the slides 18 off...
I think when they say not suitable, its usually down to duty cycle. A hypertherm is not required but cut quality and consumable prices come into it too. most knock hypertherm consumable prices but I learned to live with it, good programing can make nozzles last a long time. dry clean air is...
You should have no problems with the HF start, I was a beta tester on the THC some 8 years ago when I built mine with a miller 1250 HF start. The HF was a problem but a couple of ground rods seemed to sort the noise problem. keep to star grounding as well.
Yes I have the exact same drill, i put a single phase on it, you have to change the winding order to make them spin in reverse, you need to bring all the windings to the switch with a bit of 6 core wire.
Hi, I have been searching for a 40mm long spacer with an m8 thread all the way through it, preferably round, not hex, must be steel or s/s. would any have an idea as where to get these made up out of maybe 15-17mm solid round. would need 20 to start with.
cheers

I love it all, I have never tried it but heard it could be done with an old power steering pump, with water in, instead of oil, they say they last a while. would like to do a pair or motorcycle side panels, that triangle shape on the old bikes has always been one i wanted to do.
Bit cheaper here.

I have had that buzzing with a relay when I fitted an incorrect one, cant quite remember but it was a SPDT, twin. rs part number matched to it, but it was not the right one.
SPDT PCB relay, 5mm pin, 16A 48Vdc rs stock no 680-3741
fitted exactly but the version on my welder was a Double SPDT...
4 years on machines still held, 6 months on services, nothing on stock unless its still on the shelf. i went vat registered last year but came back out after 9 months, when coming out of vat you add all the assets up bought in the time period of being vat registered and if its under 5k plus vat...
