Been getting this 'pulsing' when welding and have found the wire coming out of the torch is moving two inches, then stopping for a millisecond, then starting again for another two inches, then stopping for a millisecond, etc, so hence the 'pulsed' effect when trying to weld - it's so bad I can't...
That was my downfall - I should have bitten the bullet, stripped the car and sent it away - only I'd only just got it and wanted to work on it bit by bit instead of stripping it in one go and sending away for ages ...
Getting there slowly now but it would have been a lot easier to have it...
Was reading a book on welding the other day and it said you can get attachments for some MIG welders which enable you to be able to spotweld.
Putting some new rear wings on my Mustang and where the new inner arches come together with the new wing arches it's crying out to be spot welded...
When I got my fastback I thought I would get it media blasted - 'plastic' media blasted that is - not as heaby as shot. Anyway, in the end I decided to do it myself and bought a 3hp compressor and some grit and the media.
It's okay and you can do it but it's bloody slow, and messy. Of course...
Anyone any idea where to get a small one? Anyone any links?
I need to get in some small spaces to grind back some metal and my DeWalt angle grinder is WAY too big to do the job ... so I fancy a little one - like you see the guys using on American Hotrod - and I fancy air this time as I have a...
Cheers Peter, I'll post a pic later if I get a mo ...
This should be a doddle by all accounts but it's getting the settings right ... and I'm a novice.
Before I spend ages mucking about with trying different settings, anyone with a quick guide?
Clarke 160 - if I have the settings on Max and 3 - the power trips, so I'm limited at Max and 2 ...
Lots of gas, lots of wire? Joint is a T joint - presumably I should be bevellingthe endge of one...
EMPTY? I have done about 10 mins welding with this bottle ...
I'm down to BOC then in the morning then to sort it out. I have had the bottle since about June but only used it in the last three days ...
:(
OK then how do you turn the cylinder ON then as the bottom knob is OPEN? Gauge doesn't move from 0 as I said ...
I'm missing something obvious aren't I?
Wound the black knob to halfway - gauge doesn't move ...
Just for entertainment value here's a pic of the weld uncleaned ...
Here's the regulator - so it's trial and error with the black knob ... that's where I've been going wrong I think ...
Thanks for the help guys - back out to the garage for some trials ... :welder:
The regulator is the one weldequip sent me ...
The problem is not a holding the torch the wrong distance thing I can assure you.
The display on the regulator never seems to move from 0 ... that can't be right? I have the min/max knob on the top turned all the way IN now (+) ... it has been...
Hi, just got round to using the Clarke 160 I bought from weldequip back before the summer ...
Have welded a bracket on my fastback - see the pics ...
The weld looks terrible ... the machine has been fine but the welds I've done so far don't seem to 'flow' if you get me. Can't get the...
I would say you should be able to hear it - just. Have been practising on the thin stuff for a while now - on my college course where 0.8mm wire is the norm  but my Clarke 160 has the 0.6 for the thin stuff ...
Hopefully this weekend I may be in a position to have a go at home with...
