Gripit fixings you can get them from screwfix etc few different sizes of them I know the biggest can quite happily hang kitchen cabinets and TVs on a plasterboard wall.
Funnily enough i had an Raa rep come in today I said I preferred to use them due to service (free next day here) and the price difference to aalco and he told me they all buy from the same mill anyway.
I would be looking at clamping to a bench and using a burnisher something like this

You can also fit rubber drums and sanding belts on them for abrasive work and wire brushes.

Too much compound the final finishing should leave virtually no compound any residual can be cleaned off with thinners or in the case of Ali,brass I just clean it off when coating with a chemical coating like extra gloss protection. Polished Ali will dull with thinners and some cleaners.
It you can wait I’m still planning a guide I did do a basic one for aluminium on here which could also be used for some aspects of stainless steel polishing
Used to do quite a bit of something similar either press a u shape out of sheet and weld interior of the u or what I used to do was tig the joint kept small enough and the top tube still slides over. Or do similar and ensure it’s a good fitment and glue the joint.
