i would say that the diagonal being in compression would be stronger, its geometric shape gives it strength beyond the quality of the weld.
thats how it appears to me anyway :)
its something Im thinking about, I'm always tinkering with something or other, yes I know very little about electronics, I can work to a schematic but I couldn't create one of my own, and of course I have all the brains on here to pick.
I came across the ad when looking for a cheap tig set, I...

so no one has a recommendation for a sub £300 tig welder??? im surprised, I know its not a lot of money but I don't plan on doing a lot of welding.
im not sure what positions my bro welds in, i usually looked away from the arc :p

I dont profess to be a professional but I would never use amps that high for a 2.5mm rod, and afaik I dont see my bro using that either and he is a professional, thats pipe welding though so I dont know how it compares.
personally I would run a 2.5 rod around 75 amps.
crossland make a housed oil filter with mounting bracket and bsp connections, probably only 1/2 or 3/8 though, I cant find their website, mayhap they dont have one, a heating merchant can help.
I am interested in buying a cheap TIG welder, I have seen some low powered units for less than £200 (without the TIG kit), are these worth buying? I am a maintenance engineer so I never do structural work or indeed heavy welding, I already have a clarke 140i MMA welder so I can use that if I...
get in touch with a flue supplier, they may have old stock lying around which they will sell off cheap, as I know 316 stainless SW maybe quite dear for this application
