Ok my second attempt at tig got better results.
Here is a T-joint. Much easier to weld having clean metal to start with :D
My first attempt at aluminium…. :welder:
I only had a thick grey tip tungsten that came with the machine (2mm weldequip?) and two 1.6mm aluminium...
When you put the new liner in did the wire feed out ok? Like rtbcomp says take the copper tip off feed the wire through then feed the copper tip over the wire and screw it back on, clip the wire off just proud of the end.
I always research expensive stuff before I buy, saved me a lot of money...
Well first time round they provided me with a chest high bottle (Y size?) and filled it to 180 bar with pure argon for £60 with no hire fees. They said now you have a bottle and we can refill it when you need more.
Reasonable I guess ;)

Was just wondering what a full bottle of argon would read on the pressure gauge.

Is there any printable welding calculator charts on the web? I’m looking for some charts I can print and laminate to hang in my van so I can see what rods, tungsten, amps etc I need to use for certain metal types and thicknesses at a glance.
I need them for mig, tig and arc. The...
I have been doing an increasing amount of mig welding at work of late :welder: . Today I spent the whole day welding end plates onto beams and ended up with a headache and cough so I guess it’s a mixture of burning oils on metals and argon/C02. Also last weekend I spent the whole day tig welding...
Yea I thought it might be, the tungsten seems to spark a little then some holes appear. As I get more and more practice I need to sharpen the tungsten less and less.

Wow new smileys! :welder: :fish: :artist: :eyepatch:
Well im using pure argon not co2 but I get the feeling that its bits of tungsten that are making the pinholes, also malcom you are right, I sharpen a pack of 10 and some last me a good while and others only a few seconds if I mess up :)
Hitachimad I think you are right about cleaning the...
Ok here are my first attempts at tig welding. I have been using 1.6mm red tip tungsten’s and ground the tips according to the miller education website and 1.6mm copper coated mild steel filler rods. Got a half size bottle of pure argon from the local gas guys and he let me have the bottle with...
Never done much gas welding, but mig and arc I have done before. I have been reading a lot of bits on the net about tig and there is one thing I read that might be helpful to you Don.
They call it "walking the cup" and from what I can gather the ceramic cup is used as a guide. Place the...

Also I have pestered him with lots of questions over the last few weeks and he’s been very helpful, cheers mate. ;)
