Apologies if this is a stupid question. I'm quite new to this and beyond a short evening course haven't done much else yet as my welder isn't set up.
When I start doing some repairs to my old BMW, there are places with spot welds that need to be fixed. Would I effectively be plug welding those areas and would I use this (I have a Sealey SuperMig):

I saw somebody else replace a panel I will be replacing. It looks like after drilling out the spot welds, he drilled through the new panel in a couple of places to bolt it in place to make sure it was properly lined up for welding in.
If you put a hole through both layers, would you just have to bodge a weld over that hole?
