This is a really basic silly question really but I thought I would just check there isn't some technique I don't know about. I am repairing an area on a wheel arch tub on a VW type 2 near where the wheel arch joins it.
There is a step in the wheel arch tub which is in the shape of an S curve. I need to repair this area but I'm not sure how to form this section. The difficulty is forming a double curve like this about 10cm long. At one point I wondered if I could take a mould of the curve with clay and then bake it to in order to then bend the steel into but I don't think the clay would be anywhere near strong enough.
Is it just a case of using copper pipe and bending sheet steel over it and then then trying to hammer it into the right shape? I realise there are probably machines for doing this properly but how do most other DIY people form metal like this without such machines?
