Hoping for a little a advice for the right approach for finishing off a panel I’m painting. I’m a novice painter but really enjoy it so want to crack on and do more and get better. At the moment I’ve epoxy primed and filled the panel and blocking it flat etc, it’s getting close to being ready for final painting and I was wondering what’s the best approach? 2k colour over epoxy primer; 2k over wet epoxy? Or let the epoxy dry and then 2k colour?
This might be a bit of a stupid question but what do guys count as one coat? Is that one pass over the panel? What would be recommended for the number of coats for the epoxy after blocking and 2k colour? 2 coats for the epoxy and 3 coats for the 2k colour?
If going 2k over wet epoxy is 320 or 400 grade dry sanding okay before putting on the epoxy or do I need to wet sand and if so to what grade is recommended? If 2k over dry epoxy is the best way what would I need to sand the epoxy to before painting the 2k colour?
The car has no orange peel so I will need to wet sand and polish the panel when it’s done I assume to get the desired results.
I have the colour code for the car, it’s an ivory colour and was wondering what’s the best way to match the colour? Use the colour code or get some of it made up by matching the colour? And last question, what's a good brand of 2k and where to buy it online? This any good? http://www.express-paints.co.uk/mixed-2k-colour/
Cheers,
Mitch
