Bought these 3 regulators at an auction last week for £5.
The first one is a hi-lo propane regulator in perfect working order and is destined for my cutting set to replace that daft plugged regulator that I'm currently using. With no gauges fitted to it setting pressures is complete guesswork! The only problem is that the stem is too short on the new reg so I was thinking of swapping over the stems as the plugged reg has an extended stem. Would I be right in thinking that the stem has a left hand thread because it's a fuel gas?
The middle reg is a nice Murex 230 series 3 regulator, destined for my mig. Would I be right in thinking it's a 2 stage reg? I stripped it down to check it out and everything appears ok apart from a broken gauge and some damage to the cone seat on the stem. I cleaned the damage up but there is a slight leak at the stem so I need a new stem. I have some loctite red liquid hydraulic sealant that is suitable for gas, would this be suitable for sealing and securing the stem or should I use green stud lock?
I think I might have the gauge fixed (broken plastic link rod) but if I need to I can swap the gauge from the reg on the mig. I am going to fit a flow meter to control the gas flow anyway.
The one on the right is a massive brute made from solid brass. It looks quite old so is destined for the scrap bin though I have plans to use some of the brass for making stuff on the lathe. It was stamped on the back 'Repair / replace 2015' so it has had a test sometime recently.
