I have just been trying to TIG braze some 4mm 304L rod using SIFBronze No.8s without much success. The molten filler seems reluctant to wet the base metal, tending to just ball up on top. By way of practice I have been trying to run a bead along the top of the rod - I can do it with a 316 filler but I'm struggling with the braze. I also tried the same exercise with braze on a 4mm steel rod and that was fine.
I am using a fine (1mm) tungsten and have tried various currents on the pedal and have also experimented with pulse. I have a tight short arc.
If my problem was a shielding gas issue I would have thought I would have had problems when I tried the steel rod?
I am thinking of buying some of the Sifsilcopper No.968 rods Weldequip sells but I don't really want to invest in these if they will be no better?
Does anyone have experience of TIG brazing stainless please?
