i am doing a metal fabrication apprenticeship and our first welding test piece is Arc vertical up. its 10mm plate with a 30° bevel and the edge is ground down flat to about 3mm width. a 3 mm gap is used for the penetration as well.
we were told to do the root pass with 6010 then the 2nd pass and cap with 7016.
i just want to know what sort of amps should i be aiming at for each pass. i know it will vary a bit as every welder is different. also any tips that might help? i think i did the root at about 45 amps negative dc and the 2nd pass and cap at about 60 amps.
