Hi dose anyone know or how to calculate how long a 19kg propane lasts always used with 1/16 cutting tip. Just picked up a big burning job and don't want to run short. Think it's about half full but will be putting it on the scales first.
It's the oxygen I'd be more worried about, I think the best way to find out how long it lasts would be to weigh your propane and check the oxygen gauge, cut for an hour and recheck to work out how much you use per hour.
Someone more clued up than me will be along soon, he'll be more help than me.
On the right hand side is a chart showing the gas consumption for both the oxygen and the propane for different nozzle sizes, you should be able to figure it out from that.
Have a read through of this thread: http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/acetylene-bottle-contents-how-long-will-it-last.46421/
I created it when I was trying to establish how long acetylene would last and wanted to see if I had calculated the figures correctly for how much gas a cylinder holds. As acetylene is also stored in a liquid form it may be helpful to read it depending on how good you are at calculating the quantity of gas in the cylinder.
These figures are a bit ball park but shouldn't be a million miles out. 1kg of LPG = 2 litres of liquid. 2 litres of liquid with convert to about 500 litres of gas, therefore a 19 kg cylinder should produce about 9,500 litres of gas
Thanks Bill Edwards for the charts I've got it here goes for anyone else who needs it
1kg of propane = .54 m3 of gas
.54 x 19kg = 10.26 m3 or 362 cf
1/16 tip uses 10cfh so 36 hours
Shame it will do the oxy size w in less than 3 hours
