Hi all i have a full size 3/4 thread regulator for large gas bottle ...is there a converter out there so i can use my regulator on small bottles ( pub type), any help be good.
Are you sure of the size and type? As there was a recent post asking a similar question. Is the "full size" a bull nosed which would be for a full size argon (argon mix) type bottle. Any adapter will be pricey almost the cost of a reg!

Hi bare with me it's my first welder .. Got the regulator with the welder and yes it's the bull nose .. Was wondering if I could use this on a smaller waist hieght c02 bottles .. Or is this not possible .
No is the simple answer. There are adapters/replacement fittings to go from the reg to the bottle BUT at £15 + a few quit more and you could have a new correct type reg to match the type of bottle. Note some of the hobby cylinders (same size as the pub cylinders) have a CO2 fitting but can have a Ar/CO2 mix in them.
It is not a safe ideal to mess around with swapping fitting on stuff for Ar mix as the pressure is VERY VERY high !! 230 to 300 bar. the water coming into your house is probable at about 4 to 8 bar. If you are looking to be taking up welding (car to do?) then look at the BOC VZ deal in the shielding gas section of forum
You can get them but cheaper to buy new regulator you will need a sealing washer also. Plus co2 will freeze and damage the argon regs. eBay if you still intend to get one
You can still get nice looking welds with co2. I use it myself just takes a bit more practice. I use it on cars with .6 wire with no problems but mix is far easier and more expensive. Co2 lasts a lot longer than mix a pub bottle lasts about 6 hours of welding for a tenner. Get a cheap co2 reg and give it a go
if you were using a CO2 regulator on an Argon or Argon mix cylinder, the adaptors are cheap enough from Machinemart, part no 010120115 for £7.19 (but thats the wrong way round for your regulator/gas bottle)
Adding an adapter to use CO2 instead of argon mix is easy and usually pretty safe, but the other way round could cause disaster! Argon mixes are stored at very high pressures, while pure CO2 is stored as a liquid with just a few BAR of gas pressure over the top of it. Regulators are normally only made to cope with the conditions they're expected to experience plus a margin of safety. Other than in very high temperature conditions CO2 pressures are rarely more than 100psi which does not compare favourably to the thousands of psi in argon mix cylinders.
