Hi All,
I am very new to welding, I only started because I picked up this machine for a really low £20...
As a total beginner I searched the web and ended up on this page! Very good source of info!
The welder was working fine, needed to remove rusty wire, clean wire feed roller and buy gas. Apart from these the unit worked fine. I actually started to play with it and it did very nice welds.
I cannot find any useful info of the unit for this brand/model though...
The other reason why I started to learn welding is that I have a small job to have done. I wanted to ask someone with proper knowledge and equipment to do it for me. Each person I approached just ignored me... Very frustrating and I decided to do it myself. I opened up an exhaust back box with an angle grinder, removed some of the contents and now I need to close it back. Obviously it needs to be airtight.
I started to work on the thing when my welder suddenly stopped feeding wire. It still arcs, gas is still coming through when I press the button on the torch.
I opened up the unit and found that something on the PCB got overheated and probably failed. I say something because I just can't find any label, number, writing on the component. I also checked the potentiometer and it looks OK to me (changes resistance when I turn it). Capacitors also look OK, no bulging or dodgy liquid oozing from under.
My question is really that anyone can direct me to what this component could be? Where can I find a replacement? Soldering it in and out is not a problem. I actually desoldered it already.
Alternatively I am looking for someone to do this job for me in Poole, Dorset area. Can be even Southampton it's not that far from me.
I attach some pics of the unit and the problem as well.
I hope someone can help as I kinda started to like welding... :-)
PS: Can anyone tell me what is the 1-2 switch for? I could not find info on it...
