hi guys.
After yet again spending a large sum of cash getting an exhaust made up, I have decided to treat myself to my own welding equipment.
Now ive looked around and read some tutorials and what not but short of actually taking a welding course im still not sure what I need from the actual welder itself.
I will only be welding stainless (and possibly mild) and most of it will be 1.5mm - 2.5mm thick. Its unlikley I will ever need to weld ally. Now using the charts on this site I shouldnt really need more than 130amps. Looking at some prices a 130amp can range from 200-500 and I cant really work out why i should pay for the more expensive stuff. The only thing i can see is if I buy a more powerfull welder I get more duty cycle (because I wont be running it at full whack.
I've got about £1k to spend however this includes getting a 32A plug fitted and all the safety equipment and a start up supply of gas (so maybe £600 for the unit itself). Its one of those things where there is too much choice for someone just getting started.
I want to have a welder that allows me some leeway for being a noob welder. Any specific welders (new or second hand) people can recommend?
Thanks guys
