Anyone cast with Phosphor Bronze?
I need a 25mm long piece of 50mm diameter bronze bar to machine a gear for the cold saw I have.
I can buy a billet of the right size for £20 but I happen to have a length of hollow core PB sat in my junk pile that I could melt and cast into a disc of the correct size.
I have some crucibles but my forge is out of action so the plan is to dig a hole in the garden, fill it with charcoal, add an air supply and melt the PB.
For a mould I was just going to use a piece of steel pipe with the end blanked off, PB melts at 930°C so the pipe should get hot but not melt - will the bronze fuse to the mould?
