N spanners I know what you are saying, this getting older thing aint that good is it
as regards my mate they took away his ability to drive his motorhome 3500 kg and trailer with smart car on when he got to 70 he had only just realised that it had gone and had to re-apply and have it reinstated, I do not know the fullextent of this, as he was quickly explaining to me that he could have been in a sticky situation if stopped after his birthday, when he checked his license .
It is ALL FAR TOO complicated IMO.
also if he fills the washer bottle on the smart car, the rear axle is over weight on the M/home !! he has to be super precise when loading but if all this is combined he is then over his licensed weight also!!If the driver wishes to drive a motorhome of 3.501 kg MTPLM - 7500kg MTPLM, they must take an additional test to obtain a C1 licence.
No, I am not talking the 70 age limit you said
I am asking where do you register then ?

looks like i'm going to have to take this test but i really don't want to as it's still something of nothing really, ****** me right off i can jump in a tractor and drag pritty much whaever i want about
i've no option really but do b+e but at some point i'm probaly going to have to do C1 as well so i'm then going to be abel to tow more with a car than a 5t truck unless i do another test
Do the C1 & C1E.
If you need to do two tests it might as well be the C1 & C1E to give you the B BE C1 C1E, rather than B BE C1.
I havnt misquoted, I misunderstood your statement that you where amending the pre 01 01 97 rules I thought you were amending something you had stated, Ah I see that is your idea, not what is actually happening----right OK.You misquoted me. I was saying that I would have had it so that IF you wanted to keep the ability to tow when the regs changed in 97 you needed to register / claim it.
- The trailer must also be lighter than the vehicle towing it.
- WRONG
You have to do a test with an E in it. So any of theses will giv you BE.Is it only the c1+e that gives you the b+e aswell. For example if you did your class 1 or whatever its called now, does that give you your b+e?
YesJust checking that BE and B+E are the same thing?

I only quoted what the motor caravan brigade stated but as for my mate, I am pretty sure he is covering his options if the vehicle IS slightly over 3500 + trailer his license which was the C1+E which he had to reinstate, still covers it, then he is only committing, an overloading offence.
For C1E yes but my comment was re your BE quote.
Looks like they are correct
Medium-sized vehicles
Category C1
You can drive vehicles between 3,500 and 7,500kg MAM (with a trailer up to 750kg).
Category C1E
You can drive C1 category vehicles with a trailer over 750kg, but the trailer - when fully loaded - can’t weigh more than the vehicle.
The combined MAM of both can’t exceed 12,000kg.
I Dont think its odd, He has, what he has----- his motor home and a trailer, that is just legal, Why change it? when it cost 40K BUT I think he is covering his options if he is say 3650kg +trailer if his great dane hasnt had a poop before getting in for instance, he would then be over his license threshold of 3500kg but not overweight if the 5%ish rule is applied ?Either drive a heavier vehicle or dont over load.
