I don’t know how many of you are moving on to LED lighting in the home. I’m going that way too. I think it is fair to describe LED technology as established. A myriad uses for the technology exists, including home, business, factories, display boards, local authority street lighting etc. As the use of this technology increases throughout the UK, (with the typical 80/90% saving on conventional lighting methods), I do wonder if the reduced consumption will impact of the utility providers (profits)
I raise this issue, as (case in point) 4 telecoms providers have decided to increase their prices (Land line, line rental) to compensate for the loss of revenue due to people opting for free technologies (or maybe cheaper smart phones use and no land- line at home. Internet access only required from their mobile etc. Free WiFi etc)
Quote from the following link:“
Latest figures from the regulator, Ofcom, show that consumers spent three billion minutes fewer on their landlines in the year to June 2014, a reduction of 12.7% in one year alone.
As a result, operators lost out on £85m of revenue compared with the previous year“.
So, should we predict/expect the power companies eventually to start shafting us even more when the effect of LED technology really takes off?
