In a bit of a rush so don't hate on me if my spellings are crap. My tig died on me and was wondering what I need to O/A Weld stainless and O/A braze stainless.
Thanks
Thanks
he got a few choice words that I didn't use in a long time.
Hes also off my Christmas card list.
If I could find a cheap one cause works tight at the moment. The TIG kit or an assembly like it will work fine on a old-school DC transformer machine, so go for it if you can get one.
Our students use the setup depicted below for stainless daily:

It's obviously been tried before and failed or they wouldn't put it on their advert.
You obviously have a greater respect for 'authority' than I do!
I've had this challenge (TIG torch used with buzz box) down on my list of things to try for at least a year. A warning like that is a green light for me to try it. Even if it's not ideal for steel, I'd expect it to work for aluminium, especially when I complete the low cost HF start unit which I'm currently building.
I think the problem is that the Tig add-on is designed to work off a DC supply, and act on the DC output - very different to AC. It's electronics and that, George - complicated stuff that wizards play with. The manufacturers don't fill them with old scrap bits of electronic gear just to make them look more expensive. Just because you want it to work because others say it won't, doesn't mean it will.
Also, for the cost of a 50p bridge rectifier coping with up to 35 or 50A, I can try and convert the buzz box to DC. My main interest in TIG will be for thin metal and delicate stuff, so 35A or 50A should be fine..
You might be right. I'll have to see. But if a HF start unit won't work on AC, how come one of the most essential applications for HF is AC for welding aluminium? Neither is it very complex electronics - or at least the one I'm building isn't - if it was, it would be beyond my capabilities. Moreover, the Miller HF start unit had a switch for AC and DC, which gives me even more confidence that my device should work.
