Then just like myself the curse is still yours Every night i think and wonder of the job ahead of me getting shut of iron when i retire and downsizeThat’s not going anywhere.
This isn’t some bit of junk . It’s a rebuilt high column machine and certainly not it for a beginner. Three or fouryears ago it had a £80000 rebuild so very specialThen just like myself the curse is still yours Every night i think and wonder of the job ahead of me getting shut of iron when i retire and downsize
Tbh I’m always on my guard and I’ve been piloting Devlieg for 24years though I don’t consider myself a proper Devlieg man . Those men would hold grinding tolerances on them , I’m happy with five thouI'm a glorified bullshiter and I'd run out of ******** courage to run that machine.
You a good bloke so I’m resisting the urge to bite! It's a machine not a fighter jet
So after 24 years youve developed sage and wisdom with these machines, isnt it time you trained and developed the next generation, remember it will take another 24 years, then itll be time to hang up your boots!Tbh I’m always on my guard and I’ve been piloting Devlieg for 24years though I don’t consider myself a proper Devlieg man.

Your in a fowl mood this morning clive.I’m not letting a amateur tinkerer who self identifies as a experienced machinist near a machine with a £25k spindle
I said what I was thinking then removed it immediately because it was wrong to post itYour in a fowl mood this morning clive.
Let's get my horizontal borer out of your shed before you start insulting me.
I don't profess to be any sort of highly experienced machinist, I outsource anything not possible on an old harrison & TOS.
That's why i've bought jobs to you, my pal sean and sent that job down to Wilson Tools the other day.
I'm a welder, who gets asked to do things involving machining, that often no one else can be bothered to do or is not worth their time.
Old machines are my hobby, metrology is a interest, scraping is a interest. I'm not going to start scraping machines for people or inspecting parts for aeroplanes.
I'd love to hear what you think of people that aren't apprentice trained in every single engineering discipline going.
Most people are probably too busy getting on with life, mortgage and bills.
It’s made me evaluate where I’m goingJust keep going and do your best Clive.
Better late than never my mate. More to life than endless graft. Best wishes with it allIt’s made me evaluate where I’m going
I’ve never ever had a holiday or day out with the family and one daughter has virtually left home. All because I work seven days
As part of your revaluation, remember that you are the most important person in your life, you need to look after you, or you'll be no good to the rest of your clan. It’s made me evaluate where I’m going

It’s really not sad , it’s no different to someone getting a new better paying jobIt’s sad to see you shutting up shop, but I understand why- it’s very indicative of the state of the country that a man with your skills cannot comfortably survive without working yourself to the ragged edge.
I would urge you to find some way to pass some of your knowledge along to other thought. Local colleges usually run night schools for adults and are screaming out for guys that actually know the job
It’s sad in so far as its skills going that won’t be replaced. It’s really not sad , it’s no different to someone getting a new better paying job
As far as teaching goes
Local tech colleges are now housing
No employers needing apprenticeships
Fords gone
Marconi gone
Bae gone
Hoffman gone
List is endless
