Propane torch and firebrick surround. Vermiculite board is what's often used in stoves to reflect the heat back in to the fire. It's light and you can use an old saw to cut it to the shapes you want.
I used to give old night store heater bricks to especially nice stove customers, to put ON TOP of the stove in the evening, so if the fire went out at four a.m., they would kick out heat for another couple of hours.
