Hi all,
Planning to buy a multi process welder for few projects, and the main one is to do some overplating on my narrowboat. Surveyor suggested to overplate locally few spots with 10mm steel (I think I can get away with 8mm). I was thinking about buying a Millermatic 220 ACDC and wonder if 220A with 1mm wire will be sufficient to do the job? I think about using the MIG with fluxed wire, any advice?
Or could I get away with a 200A machine, say Kemppi Minarc EVO 200 if going for a single process machine?
This is a non-structural welding, so I would not expect to achieve a full penetration and pass a bend test, just need to add some extra thickness on the bottom of the hull.
Thanks in advance
P.S. the machine to buy is to use on many projects, so this 10mm is probably the most thick I will ever weld, so not willing to buy something too big.
