What about two lamps wired in parallel, one wired with the pos opposite to the other, so it becomes its own rectifier.

The LED driver might not like being switched on and off at 50hz in the long term. I would put a small bridge rectifier on it and a cap. Nowt to lose really and should fit in the transformer box easily.
Across the output of the bridge rectifier.Where does the cap go Pete? Little sketch would be handy with clear indication of where the chimney goes

The existing transformer is 25v AC. The DC output after rectification and capacitor smoothing will be 35.35 volts ( x 1.414 ), which exceeds the 30v maximum of the LED lamp.
It's dual voltage output he could use the 12.5v tapping, rectified ad come out well above the LED's minimum voltage.
