Hi all...
so must be a year now since I shouted for advice on the oxy propane kit on here, I ended up going with everyone advice, ditch the oxy acetylene kit I had (gauges, hoses, torches) and get it all new.
A year after.. I finally got round to hook it all up, but I reckon I'm doing something wrong, as I have had a couple of tiny bangs and scared the **** out of me, so thought better ask for help.
First question is in regards to kit storage.
My bottles are outside, behind the garage, I have hooked it all up, done the process, by stages, of soapy water and it's all nice and tight.
Question is - I use it sporadically. can go a month without using it, or sometimes use it every weekend for a few weeks, if I'm in the middle of something.
Can I leave everything connected and under this cover? it's a rubber cover, 100% waterproof. I thought maybe not disconnecting so not to mess up and know 100% it's all sealed.. but maybe not good leaving the hoses and gauges outside? I took the torch out though..
now to the more important questions..
I have 2 torches.
one is used for cutting, the other for heating up.. so far so good.
I was told I also could use the cutting torch for heating...but as I have the heating torch I might as well use the right kit for the job right?
All I use it for is to bend solid steel rod, 16mm thick. or thinner sometimes.
Here's the kit I have.
Now the important bit I really need help with, because despite watching load of youtube videos I'm still not 100% confident on this.
Please someone correct me if I'm wrong:
On Oxy/Propane the outer flame is hotter than inner flame (opposite from acety), so keep outer flame on what you heating.
To turn it on, propane first oxygen after
To switch off, oxygen first propane after (on torch)
To get it going, light propane, get flame that doesn't separate from tip and has no soot.. then introduce oxy
Now... is that all correct?
Because I have been doing it, and when I switch off, when I turn the oxygen off it bangs! what the hell is going on?
also, could anyone advice on what pressures to run to heat up and cut? I found a table but only applies to cutting, so not a clue what to use...
I think earlier today I was on 0.4 propane and about 4 Oxygen
thanks everyone for any advice, everything is welcome, just trying to be safe here - most things I find are only related to acetylene and not propane....
thanks!
JP
