Had a bit of a hold up getting started on this due to storm damage problems - which now involve re-building the shed that sits on top of my workshop and provides the roof.
Anyway I milled the MX5 bell housing flat. That bearing sits flush with the surface - but its a tight fit and its very cold so not bothering yet.
The cogs on the end need to be replaced with a female spline - that I can chop off the end of the MX5 propshaft, and the male version welded to the VW input shaft - I can chop the male version off the main MX5 gearbox shaft - Anyone want a shaft welding/lathing job!?
The Ali plate gets welded flat to this bit having been centred on the bearing hole and bolted up. Still need an accurate location of the VW mount dowels and VW shaft centre as that will keep the whole thing aligned.
